Swimsuit model Kate Upton has been cunningly used to help market the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA at the Super Bowl next month. If you didn’t know, advertising at the Super Bowl is a massive deal, so Mercedes will be seeing this as a huge opportunity. Last year’s Super Bowl saw a dramatic Chrysler 200 feature which drafted in Lose Yourself hit maker Eminem, so it is very big business.
It represents a shift in advertising technique from Mercedes and this is probably due to the fact that they want to appeal to a younger demographic with their new stylish compact sedan.
So far we can only go on a 90 second preview which features 20-year-old Kate Upton playing around with some soap, before revealing that she has no intention of washing the car, as her fan club of adolescent boys (wearing football jerseys of course) are more than willing enough to do it for her.
The full campaign will feature both Upton and R&B star Usher. There is a lot of speculation as to whether or not it is a good idea for the brand to try and move away from its sensible, classy image that has served it so well over the years.
Do you think this is a good move from Mercedes-Benz, or is it too out of character? Furthermore, does the advert even make a difference, or were you always desperate to buy the new Mercedes-Benz CLA anyway? Either way, I’m sure we can agree that we wouldn’t mind getting our Mercedes-Benz Serviced by Kate Upton. I mean sure, she is welcome to rub soap all over my Merc Parts anytime.
